Five surviving babies of the sextuplets born at the Mount Hope Women's Hospital will be released into their care of their parents soon, almost one month after their historic delivery.CNC3 spoke with parents Keiron Cummings and Petra Lee Foon after a daily visit to their babies yesterday afternoon."We are doing alright. The nurses and doctors briefed us on his condition from ever since," a noticeable sombre Ms Lee Foon said.
"Obviously we are distraught but we are coping. We know the staff tried their best, they did everything, but we have accepted what's happened," she continued. The sextuplets' historic birth broke several records. They were the first to be born in Trinidad and Tobago and the region.
She told us, "It is very hard but we have to try to be strong because we have five other little angels."The babies have been under the care of hospital staff since March 4th. But Keiron Cummings says "they are doing good, putting on nice size, they should be home soon. We are hoping it is soon."
Even as they prepare to welcome home their celebrity babies, they must first say goodbye to their baby Kaylon."The family is still grieving. We're seeing about funeral arrangements, but we're coping and we are going good."They could not say how soon he will be laid to rest."We asking for all the nation's prayers still," Keiron Cummings told us.
He lamented, "That is all we asking for although everybody stating that we are asking for thousands of different things."
Sources at the Mount Hope Women's Hospital say the babies are doing well and doctors want to release them within the next few weeks but are keeping a close eye on their health.
