Investigations are continuing into an accident on Sunday afternoon, in which an excavator operator was killed after the machine overturned and crushed him to death. Relatives of Bishnu Jagasar, 50, of Cumuto Main Road, were grieving yesterday as they attempted to come to terms with his sudden demise.
Jagasar died around 3 pm on Sunday, while at his workplace at Cumuto Main Road, Cumuto.Reports indicate Jagasar was last seen around 2.30 pm by co-worker Sanjay Ackool.Ackool, 30, of Teak Lane, Valencia, told officers he last saw Jagasar around 2.30 pm, as he operated an excavator on the southern side of the compound.
Ackool said upon checking on Jagasar around 2.45 pm, he observed the overturned excavator lying on the western side of a 20-foot high embankment, and Jagasar's feet protruding from under the machine.Ackool raised an alarm and summoned another employee, Sherwin Boodoo, 37 of Freeman Road, St Augustine, to assist him in righting the fallen excavator.
The two later alerted officers, who visited the scene and observed Jagasar bleeding from injuries to his head and upper body.The district medical officer visited the scene and pronounced Jagasar dead, before ordering his body removed.An autopsy is expected to be conducted today.
