A family involved in an accident along the Valencia stretch on Saturday is calling for a proper police investigation.In an e-mail, a family member claimed the driver, a police officer was drunk. She claimed a breathalyser test was not administered to the driver by his colleagues.The relative (who refused to be named) said her pregnant sister was driving a Nissan Primera when she heard a police siren coming towards her.
"My sister noticed the police vehicle was spinning out of control and heading directly towards her and a car in front of her. She quickly pulled to the side of the road but it was too late," she said.She said the police vehicle collided with her sister's car. "She could not do anything but hope that she and her unborn child would be okay," she said.She said her sister was taken to Sangre Grande District Hospital where she was treated and discharged.
Public relations officer of the Police Service ASP Joanne Archie said an investigation was being conducted into the accident. When asked about the February 24 accident on the Beetham Highway which claimed the lives of 28-year-old mother Haydee Paul and her daughters–Ruthie, eight, and Shakira, seven, Archie said: "An interim file was submitted by the investigator and police are awaiting forensics results.
The mother and daughters were struck and killed on the Beetham Highway near Pioneer Drive, where they lived.
