Casan­dra Thomp­son-Forbes

For­mer gov­ern­ment min­is­ter and To­ba­go East MP Ren­nie Du­mas was found guilty of com­mon as­sault and as­sault oc­ca­sion­ing ac­tu­al bod­i­ly harm in the Scar­bor­ough Mag­is­trates Court on April 24.

He was found guilty by Se­nior Mag­is­trate Nanette Forde-John, who de­ferred sen­tenc­ing to May 2.

Du­mas was charged with as­sault­ing Roger Si­mon at Arnos Vale Road, Ply­mouth on June 1, 2011.

The court heard that Du­mas ac­cused Si­mon of steal­ing build­ing ma­te­ri­als from his prop­er­ty in Ply­mouth, To­ba­go. The court al­so heard that dur­ing the row Du­mas struck Si­mon in the face with his li­censed firearm knock­ing out two of his front teeth and caus­ing fa­cial in­juries. Forde-John said she was con­vinced by the pros­e­cu­tion that Du­mas com­mit­ted the act.

Du­mas ap­peared sur­prised as the mag­is­trate made the rul­ing. Du­mas' le­gal team which in­clud­ed for­mer at­tor­ney gen­er­al John Je­re­mie and Kei­th Scot­land in­di­cat­ed said they need­ed time to re­view the case. Si­mon was present in court dur­ing yes­ter­day's pro­ceed­ings.
