Hours after saying he was the target of "internal enemies" and that he had to "fight against my internal enemies for too long," former Chaguanas West MP Jack Warner yesterday said the bond between himself and his party colleagues was strong.
Warner said that as he responded to a private motion against him in the House of Representatives by Leader of the Opposition Dr Keith Rowley. Rowley, in his presentation, referred to Warner's statement on Thursday night about new Works Minister Dr Suruj Rambachan. But in response, Warner said, "We on that side and on this side, there is a bond between us which nobody could break."
Warner was seated on the Government backbench yesterday after he resigned as minister on Sunday. Yesterday was the first sitting of the House since that development. He said it was because of the bond members of the PP have, "we are free to cuss today and hug up tomorrow. So that doesn't affect our relationship."
Warner said: "When I say 'X' is good or 'X' is bad, it may have to do with a deed, an act or a word, but not the person. Leave Suruj and me alone. That's our business."He said there was an unbreakable bond among the members of the PP Government.Attempts to reach Rambachan for comment were unsuccessful yesterday.Warner said despite his concerns, his relationship with the Prime Minister will "always be first class."
He said he had to seek a fresh mandate from his constituents, so he resigned as MP with the hope of being re-elected when the expected by-election was called. He said his time in Parliament was very nice.He said Rowley's motion was intended to embarrass Persad-Bissessar, but there was no need for the PM to be in Parliament to defend him as there were other ministers who could do that.
Warner said he resigned with honour as a cabinet minister, but Rowley was sacked by then prime minister Patrick Manning with dishonour. Several times during Warner's contribution there was desk-thumping in support from Government MPs."Mr Speaker, my Prime Minister did not call me a wajank to release me. She never called me a raging bull, she called me a doer, an achiever," Warner said.
