The United National Congress (UNC) says it "completely" rejects the allegation by Independent Senator Dr Rolph Balgobin that the party was funded by stolen money in its electoral campaign.Balgobin made a statement last week during his contribution to the Miscellaneous Provisions (Defence and Police Complaints) Bill in the Senate. He referred to the findings of the Concacaf Integrity Committee.
Balgobin had said, "If what is said in there is even half true, and if it is also half true that one of the central figures in the report actually bailed out and assisted a number of ministers and paid for...electoral campaign then you would have come to Government with stolen money."Another newspaper published a story with the headline, "Balgobin: Stolen $ may have funded campaign."
However, a statement from the party said: "This is an extremely unfortunate conclusion based on inaccurate premises and unsubstantiated allegation."The United National Congress reiterates that it rejects completely this allegation of Independent Senator Balgobin."
