The Unit­ed Na­tion­al Con­gress (UNC) says it "com­plete­ly" re­jects the al­le­ga­tion by In­de­pen­dent Sen­a­tor Dr Rolph Bal­go­b­in that the par­ty was fund­ed by stolen mon­ey in its elec­toral cam­paign.Bal­go­b­in made a state­ment last week dur­ing his con­tri­bu­tion to the Mis­cel­la­neous Pro­vi­sions (De­fence and Po­lice Com­plaints) Bill in the Sen­ate. He re­ferred to the find­ings of the Con­ca­caf In­tegri­ty Com­mit­tee.

Bal­go­b­in had said, "If what is said in there is even half true, and if it is al­so half true that one of the cen­tral fig­ures in the re­port ac­tu­al­ly bailed out and as­sist­ed a num­ber of min­is­ters and paid for...elec­toral cam­paign then you would have come to Gov­ern­ment with stolen mon­ey."An­oth­er news­pa­per pub­lished a sto­ry with the head­line, "Bal­go­b­in: Stolen $ may have fund­ed cam­paign."

How­ev­er, a state­ment from the par­ty said: "This is an ex­treme­ly un­for­tu­nate con­clu­sion based on in­ac­cu­rate premis­es and un­sub­stan­ti­at­ed al­le­ga­tion."The Unit­ed Na­tion­al Con­gress re­it­er­ates that it re­jects com­plete­ly this al­le­ga­tion of In­de­pen­dent Sen­a­tor Bal­go­b­in."
