Former minister Jack Warner has written to the Prime Minister expressing concern over the turn of events at the Ministry of National Security since his exit from the Government eight days ago. Warner initially turned to leader of government business in the House, Dr Roodal Moonilal, for help to save the job of his former research specialist, Sunil Ramjitsingh. Less than 48 hours after Warner called it quits, Ramjitsingh was facing the axe at the security ministry but the intervention of Moonilal saved Ramjitsingh from being terminated.
And in a two-page letter sent to the acting Prime Minister Errol McLeod on Friday, Warner stated: "I have been advised that at yesterday's Cabinet meeting the issue of moves on Wednesday to fire my former research specialist Mr Sunil Ramjitsingh from the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure (MOWI) where he was employed, was raised.
"I am also advised that certain misstatements were made to the Cabinet by the new MOWI in relation to the matter, and as such I wish to set the record straight for the benefit of my former Cabinet, the Prime Minister and the People's Partnership," Warner stated.Warner said he was advised that Ramjitsingh was summoned to the office of permanent secretary Isaac James on Wednesday to discuss termination of his contract. According to Warner, Ramjitsingh was told "political matters" surrounded the decision.
Rambachan, Warner said, also met with Ramjitsingh on the same day and inquired about his work arrangements."Dr Rambachan asked him about his position and work arrangements, to which Ramjitsingh explained that when I was the minister at the MOWI, I caused him to be hired in the post of research specialist which paid a meagre salary of approximately $7,000, and I subsidised the difference out of my personal funds so that he would not be out of pocket," Warner stated.
The former minister said he paid Ramjitsingh an additional $6,000 monthly apart from his regular salary.Warner said he complained to Moonilal about the situation and he later promised to rectify the matter."It is clear that in less than 48 hours after my resignation from the Government, a most vindictive strike was made against a talented, hard-working and dedicated young man whose only crime was to be associated with me," Warner said.
Warner also claimed that Rambachan contacted a resident of Cunupia (name called) and advised him that he (Rambachan) would be working with the "Hon PM and a few other ministers to get rid of Jack Warner." He promised to reveal more at a later date.Attempts to get a comment from James on the issue were unsuccessful on Friday, as his secretary said he was unavailable to take calls. When Ramjitsingh was contacted, he wanted to know the source of the information. When this was not disclosed, he declined to comment.
