A 34-year-old man was killed and another wounded when gunmen stormed a lime in Cocorite on Wednesday night.Reports said around 8.15 pm Jason "Bobo" Lewis, of Sugar Hill, Cocorite, was liming in his yard with friends when they were attacked by five men.Investigators said after a short conversation the five men drew guns and shot at Lewis and his friends.
Lewis was shot several times in the chest and head while his friend, David Ferguson, was shot in his chin and head. Their other friends managed to run away and escaped unhurt. The gunmen reportedly sped off in a waiting vehicle.Lewis was pronounced dead on the scene by a District Medical Officer (DMO).Ferguson was rushed to the St James Medical Complex and then transfered to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital. He remained warded in a stable condition up to late yesterday.
Investigators said Ferguson and the other friends were unable to identify their attackers because they wore ski masks and handkerchiefs.Police said Lewis had been involved in criminal activities in the past and had a criminal record.Although homicide detectives had not established a motive for the attack, they believe it might be drug or gang-related.
Senior Supt Ismael David, Supt Alphonso Patterson and Insp Thomas of the Western Division visited the scene and are probing the shooting.His killing took the murder toll to 128 up to late yesterday.
