No Confidence 2013-05-20
Former justice minister and MP for St Joseph Herbert Volney said the e-mails read by Opposition Leader Keith Rowley in Parliament yesterday confirmed he was used as the "fall guy" in the Section 34 fiasco.
Volney, who was removed from his post as Justice Minister after being accused of misleading the Government in the proclamation of the controversial legislature, had this to say about Rowley's disclosure:"I think it will serve to confirm what I have been saying before, which is that I was used and made to take the fall for other people."
During yesterday's motion of no confidence against the Prime Minister and the Government, Rowley read what he claimed were e-mails sent over the course of 17 days betweenanan@gmail.com and kamlapb1@gmail.com.Volney said it was clear that Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar had received bad advice and continued to receive bad advice from Attorney General Anand Ramlogan.
"I have never trusted the AG and I don't think the country trusts the AG. I am just glad that it has all come out in the open," he said.Volney said while there was denial of the e-mails yesterday in Parliament, there was a list of details corroborated by actual occurrences."What it amounts to is circumstantial evidence as proof but this is usually considered compelling."Volney said he was deeply moved by the disclosure and had to hold in his emotions during Rowley's contribution.
