In an effort to raise awareness of the importance of health care in the Las Lomas community, Elijah Centre, a St Joseph-based church, held a free health clinic for residents of the east Trinidad community.Over 60 adults and children from the community took advantage of the opportunity to receive free checkup and medical advice including glucose BMI, blood glucose, blood pressure and cholesteroltesting. The clinic also provided a range of vaccinations including yellow fever, Hepatitis B, influenza and tetanus.
Dr Noel Woodroffe, senior pastor at the Elijah Centre, who was behind the EC CommunityCare project, was satisfied with the outcome:
"We are extremely pleased to have been able to mobilise the health care practitioners in our church community to provide this important service. I commend the doctors, nurses and dietitians who all volunteered their time and skill to make this possible. The services they provided have brought needed health care and practical information to individuals, families and the wider community."
More than 15 volunteer health care professionals participated in the EC CommunityCare Health Clinic held July 13, in Las Lomas. Several health and wellness as well as dietary counseling and consultations we also conducted. Members of the Las Lomas community pitched in to ensure that things went smoothly.
One of the volunteers, Dr Osafo Fraser said, "My colleagues and I are delighted to have been a part of providing this exciting initiative. I think the EC Community Care is an excellent model for us to give back to our communities, and an excellent way to create greater awareness of the importance of proper personal health care."Elijah Centre is a church community headquartered in St Joseph, with operations spread in over 12 cities across the world.
