Almost $2 million worth of high-grade cocaine was found near Piarco Airport on Monday night.The illegal drugs were found hidden in a suitcase which was abandoned near a businessplace in Piarco.According to reports, shortly before 8 pm on Monday, police from the Northern Division Task Force (NDTF) were on patrol on Golden Grove Road, Piarco, when they saw a car parked at the side of the road near the establishment.
As the occupants saw the police car they sped away towards the Churchill-Roosevelt Highway, leaving behind a black suitcase at the side of the road.In it police found six plastic packages of cocaine weighing a total six kilos.No arrests were made up to late yesterday.
The narcotics are expected to be taken to the Forensic Science Centre in St James for testing before being destroyed.
Investigators believe the suspects were planning to export the drugs through the airport.Senior Supt David Abraham and ASP Hosein, of the Northern Division are continuing investigations.
