Gunmen hit Morvant, Maloney in last two days
Police are investigating two shootings in Morvant and Maloney between Thursday night and yesterday afternoon which left three men warded at hospital with critical injuries. In the more recent incident, shortly after midday yesterday, two construction workers were shot while working at a job site in Morvant.
According to reports around 12.45 pm, Nicholas Pierre, 20, of Carpentier Street, Morvant and Karim Harewood, of Tapana Street, Morvant, were at a construction site near Pierre’s home, when the duo was approached by a gunman. Police said without warning the gunman drew a firearm and shot both men several times. He then ran off.
Residents and police rushed the two men to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where they underwent emergency surgery. Both men were listed in critical condition with Pierre being warded at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Police had not established a motive for the shooting up to late yesterday. Meanwhile, a 33-year-old Maloney man remains warded after being wounded in a shooting in D’Abadie on Thursday night.
Police said around 8.30, Ryan Gill was standing in front a supermarket at Old Piarco Branch Rd, Red Hill, D’Abadie when he was accosted by a gunman who shot him in the face and leg. He was rushed to the Arima Health Facility and was then transfered to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope where he remains warded in critical condition. Investigations are continuing into both shootings.
