Quick work by cops leads to bandits’ capture
A joint operation by Central and Southern Division police yesterday thwarted the efforts of two bandits who robbed a Claxton Bay business of $10,000 and severely beat an employee. An all-points-bulletin issued around 11 am resulted in an aerial and land manhunt by Task Force officers which resulted in the capture of the two men suspected of robbing K Chin’s Preserves. According to reports, the bandits entered the Macaulay Trace business place around 10 am, one armed with a cutlass and the other with a gun.
Police said the men concealed their faces with masks and were wearing coveralls when they announced a robbery and tied up the owner, Kelvin Chin, and five employees. One of the bandits then began to beat an employee with the flat side of the cutlass, but he managed to escape and contact the police. Within minutes, police led by Snr Supt Cecil Santana held one of the suspects, who ran in and out of a woman’s house as he tried to elude them.
An hour later, a team led by Supt Johnny Abraham held the other suspect walking along the southbound lane of the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway, near the Claxton Bay Flyover. A gun and a bag containing $9,741 was recovered. The men, both of Claxton Bay, aged 25 and 26, will be placed on identification parades later this week. PC Persad of the St Margaret's Police Station is continuing investigations.
