COP raises ‘cabal’ concerns with PM
The majority of Congressof the People MPs held ameeting with Prime MinisterKamla Persad-Bissessar lastThursday, where they raisedthe COP’s concerns aboutnational issues, includingallegations of corruption anda so-called “cabal” in thePeople’s Partnership (PP)Government. The meeting was confirmedby COP officials whosaid it was initiated by theCOP.ILP chairman Robin Montanoalso spoke about themeeting before yesterday’sILP motorcade. All the COPMPs, except Anil Roberts,were at the meeting.
The other COP MPs areLincoln Douglas, RodgerSamuel, Winston Dookeran,Carolyn Seepersad-Bachanand party leader PrakashRamadhar.COP officials said the party“put its cards on the table”in terms of national issuesand other matters raised inthe public domain.“That included allegationsand or/the perception of corruptionconcerning some officials.It was pointed out thatthe Government and all partiesneeded to go forward andaction would be required todo so,” a source said aboutthe meeting.
Ramadhar was not availableyesterday. The T&T Guardianwas told, however, his LegalAffairs Ministry had begunworking on anti-corruptionand whistleblower legislationto aid the Government’s anticorruptionthrust.Contacted yesterday on theCOP meeting with the PM,Seepersad-Bachan said shehad no comment to make.
