The Couva Point Lisas Chamber of Commerce wants improved policing in T&T.This word comes from chamber president Lily Herai when she addressed a post-budget forum at the chamber's Camden Road offices. Herai said the Couva Police Station was poorly equipped to handle the 33 communities its officers service. The Ministry of National Security was allocated $6.4 billion.
Heria was also concerned about what she described as paltry the sum of $1.3 billion allocated to the Ministry of Food Production.Herai said the chamber is worried this may not be enough to drive the agricultural sector to see a viable reduction of the food bill. She said the infrastructure in agricultural areas need to be improved. Herai said the chamber wants more information about Government's plan for T&T farmers to cultivate crops in Guyana.
She said flooding and poor roads and traffic congestion still plague the Couva/Pt Lisas areas, and that dualling of Rivulet Road was promised in the 2013 budget, but has yet to materialise. She said the education sector received the largest chunk of the budget – $9.8 billion – but schools still have a plethora of problems to overcome.
