Maxi-taxi conductor shot dead
A maxi-taxi conductor was one of two men shot dead in Arima on Thursday night. The victims have been identified as Joel “Smokey” Andall, 25, of Phase Two, La Horquetta, Arima, and 29-year-old David Chance, of Samaroo Village, Arima. Chance, a maxi-taxi conductor, was shot dead by two gunmen who pretended to be passengers in his maxi. Police said, around 9.30 pm, the two men boarded Chance’s maxi at a taxi stand in Arima.
At the Red Hill, D’Abadie, intersection of the Priority Bus Route (PBR), they signalled the driver to stop. One of the men handed over his fare to the driver. Without warning the other man drew a gun and shot Chance once in the head. The men then got out and ran away down a nearby track. The driver took Chance to the Arima Health Facility where he died while being treated. Almost an hour later, Andall was shot dead while walking near his home.
Around 10.45 pm, residents of La Horquetta Boulevard, La Horquetta, reported hearing several gunshots. Police from the Northern Division Task Force (NDTF) led by Cpl Bernard, arrived and found Andall lying at the side of the road. Andall had several gunshot wounds to his chest and died of his injuries at the scene. Police had not determined the motives for both murders up to yesterday evening. The latest murders have taken this year’s toll to 298. Detectives of Region Two Homicide Bureau are probing both murders.
