The splitting of votes among the United National Congress (UNC), Congress of the People (COP) and the Independent Liberal Party (ILP) would result in the People's National Movement (PNM) walking away with seven corporations comfortably. This was one of the findings from a poll conducted by the North American Caribbean Teachers Association (NACTA). The findings were released on Sunday.
"The findings show that splintering of the partnership support between COP or UNC and ILP put the PNM in the lead in Arima, Sangre Grande, Tunapuna, Laventille, Port-of-Spain, Diego Martin and San Fernando, among other corporations."Overall, the poll is turning out to be "a contest between the PNM and ILP in corporations where COP is contesting." Other findings of the report suggest that the picture is gloomy for COP because "the COP has not been getting much political traction with most of its supporters crossing over to the ILP."
The ILP is also causing some havoc for the UNC, since according to the poll, in corporations where the UNC is contesting, it is a three-way battle but the UNC is also losing a lot of support to the ILP."The poll also found that that division of the People's Partnership support enhances the PNM's prospects of regaining corporations it lost in July 2010 with the poll showing the PNM leading in a majority of the 14 corporations.
