Leader of the Movement for Social Justice David Abdulah is appealing to all political leaders to condemn any acts of violence in the strongest possible way.He also called on the leaders to urge their supporters to keep violence out of the campaign after an arson attack on the office of one of its candidates at Guapo, Point Fortin.Abdulah is making a political link to an arson attack. He believes the attempt to burn down the Guapo/Techier office of its candidate, Melina Richards, is an attempt to intimidate her campaign because she is "making waves in Point Fortin."The MSJ leader said that was the second attack on Richards.
He added: "Two nights ago, someone robbed her husband at gunpoint while he was adjusting her banner outside the office."They took his wedding band, cellphone and money and yesterday someone decided to torch the place."Someone tried to burn the office. They threw a flammable liquid inside and tried to set it alight."A number of items were burnt. A chair, desk, curtains, the carpet were all scorched. Documents were also damaged but I do not have a full report on that as yet."Richards said the incident had made her stronger and has resolved to continue the campaign and bring the seat home to the MSJ.The matter has been reported to the police and fire officials are investigating.
