Teen shot dead near Maloney home
A 18-year-old Maloney resident was shot dead near his home on Wednesday night. Police said around 10 pm, Kareem Martineau, of Building Seven, Maloney Gardens, was liming with friends at an apartment building near his home when two masked men approached and began shooting at them. He was shot several times but his friends escaped. The gunmen ran away. Police from the Maloney Police Post arrived shortly after and took Martineau to the Arima Health Facility where he died while being treated. Investigators said despite his age Martineau was well known to them and his murder had been classified as gang-related.
Meanwhile, police are seeking the public’s assistance to help identify a man whose decomposing body was found in Matura on Wednesday. Police said around 8 am employees of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure were doing road repair along the Toco Main Road, Matura, when they saw the body in bushes near to the 12 1/2 mile mark. Investigators said the man was bareback and was wearing boxer shorts, pulled below his knees. He was said to be of African descent and between 20 and 30 years old. Homicide detectives could not say if the body had marks of violence as it was in an advanced stage of decomposition. A post mortem to determine the cause of death will be done at the Forensic Science Centre, St James, once he is identified. Police believe he was killed elsewhere and dumped there a little over three weeks ago. Anyone who may be able to identify him is asked to contact the Region Two Homicide Bureau at 640-1738.
