Cops probe two murders in Laventille and Sangre Grande
The country's murder toll rose yesterday to 326, of which 34 occurred this month.
Around 3pm yesterday, residents of L'Eau place, off Laventille Road, Laventille heard several gunshots. When police arrived, they found Josiah Smith, 28, of Duncan Street, Port of Spain, lying at the side of road with multiple gunshot wounds. Smith died on the scene. Police said he was known to them.
Police are also probing the killing of Keisha Sanchez, 31, of Second State Trace, Guaico, Sangre Grande but have not yet established a motive. Around 9.45 pm, Sanchez heard knocking on her front door by men pretending to be police. When she opened it, she was attacked by four armed men, three with cutlasses and one with a gun. She was chopped and shot in head. Neighbours found her and took her to hospital. She died shortly after 11.30 pm.
In an unrelated incident, Anthony Rondon, of Carapo was killed in accident near the O' Meara intersection on the highway this morning around 4.30 am. Rondon was driving south and was hit by a vehicle in east bound lane. He died on the scene, while the other driver got minor injuries and was subsequentll discharged from hospital.
