UNC candidate for St Joseph Ian Alleyne says it was only after Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar dealt with the Jack Warner/FIFA bribery allegations and the Section 34 scandal for which Herbert Volney was dismissed as justice minister he had a change of heart and began to support the People's Partnership Government. He said he had been a non-supporter of the Government but now believed he had joined a winning party. He made the comment during a political meeting in Bamboo Village No 1, Valsayn, on Wednesday night. He added that when the PM said she was taking legislation to Parliament so that any MP who did not perform would be fired, that was when he said to himself "let me get in de dance."Alleyne urged supporters not to split the votes on Monday. He said both Warner and Volney were angry and had nothing good to say about him or the PM."They say I am only talking poverty but they can say what they want. I came from humble beginnings so I can feel your pain," Alleyne said.
He said the Independent Liberal Party (ILP) was a group formed to "bad talk" its former employers. He asked: "When a woman 'lock off' a man, you think he does have anything good to say about her? "Allyuh get lock off. Beat the road, Jack. This is not mud-slinging. Here it's facts."He said if voters were to vote for his opponents–attorney Om Lalla (ILP) and Terrence Deyalsingh (PNM)–they would be voting for "hungry mouth" MPs."Imagine you have a daughter and she has a hungry-mouth ma and every day she has to say 'ma, yuh could help me buy the chicken? Ma, yuh could help me put salt in the rice, or help me pay the bills?' Why? Because she has a no-good husband. That is why the great cultural icon Sparrow said 'you can't make love on hungry belly'," said Alleyne. He added: "Today, voting for Om Lalla and Deyalsingh, they are hungry-mouth people because they can't do nothing for you." Giving an illustration, he asked the Bamboo residents to imagine all three candidates were before them. He asked what they could say Deyalsingh or Lalla had done for them. The crowd responded: "Nothing."
Alleyne challenged all who were speaking against the projects he had done in St Joseph to bring documents to prove he was acting illegally. He said when Lalla asked for him to be probed it was like the pot calling the kettle bottom black."I challenge them, go back in all your documents and see if you see my name down for any contracts? Not Ian Alleyne," he added. He was referring to claims by the PNM and ILP candidate Om Lalla he was being given access to state resources to launch projects in the constituency in order to boost his campaign. The PNM has written to the Integrity Commission complaining about the matter but members of the party have defended Alleyne's right to do so.Alleyne said he had started 25 projects in the St Joseph area and if he was given the next 18 months much more could be done. He highlighted work now being done at the St Joseph Government Primary School and in Mt Lambert.Alleyne said if the PNM was allowed to return to office that would be a blow, especially to the business community, as business owners would now have to resort to running their businesses by remote viewing. He said: "You will have to leave this country and run your businesses from abroad because your families will be kidnapped."We all know what it was like under the PNM. St Joseph, if you want to feel safe ride your bike or leave your door open while yuh watching Ian Alleyne, then vote for me."Vote for the performer... and they doing it right, you know. While Om talking, Deyalsingh talking, we go deliver."
