Chairman of the Congress of the People (COP) Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan has condemned those who continue to call for the removal of Prakash Ramadhar as the party's political leader.Speaking with the media yesterday after addressing the 2013 scholarship recipients at the Advanced Level Scholarship seminar at the Hyatt Regency, Port-of-Spain, Seepersad-Bachan said: "That is not the way to do business and this is not the way the COP will conduct its affairs."
She said all those who called for Ramadhar's removal have done was add to the party's instability. She said the party had suffered in the October 21 local government elections because "of this amount of wrangling that took place in the party and the time for that has got to stop."However, Seepersad-Bachan said as the party's chairman she was going to stop it."Enough is enough. We can discuss issues but we need to be mature politically when we want to discuss issues," she added.
She said the party's constitution did not allow for expulsion and that from time-to-time some members may have misbehaved in her view but that one could not go ultra-virus to the party's constitution which did not read well for good governance in the party. She said, however, that good sense must prevail and people must appreciate that the party was more important than any individual.
"I think we are getting caught up, some individuals in our party, are getting very caught up in individuality and who the individual is instead of that the party is bigger than any individual," she said.Seepersad-Bachan said the party was set to discuss several issues, such as party financing and using state resources for political gains at the next chairman's forum, which would be held within the next couple of weeks.
