Errol Fabien returned to the airwaves on Tuesday morning as the host of the Mixed Nuts radio show on Vibe CT 105FM after being on hiatus during his run in the St Joseph by-election earlier this month. When he filed nomination papers on October 14 as an independent candidate, he was asked by the management of Guardian Media Ltd (GML) to take a break from the talk show.
GML's long-established policy said any person actively involved in politics could not be employed by the group, according to deputy managing director Brandon Khan.Fabien lost the by-election but said it was not the end for his political ambitions and he would contest the 2015 general election.According to previous reports, he said: "This is the new phase of my life, my new definition of myself and I am in it 1,000 per cent."Fabien has returned to the show and confirmed to the T&T Guardian on Tuesday he would also return to politics.
"Of course I going back," he said during a telephone interview. In an interview yesterday, when asked whether bringing back a host with political ambitions could conflict with the group's independence policy, Khan said Fabien was a professional and was capable of being politically neutral."He's reassured us that when he is on air, he would remain unbiased in his approach to dealing with all matters," Khan said yesterday.
He added it did not mean that Fabien could not discuss political issues but there would be "no taking sides" and all parties could be discussed.Khan said Fabien understood the company's policy and the nature of the show was comedic.Mixed Nuts has added a new co-host, comedian Tommy Joseph, to work alongside Fabien and George Gonzales.Additionally, Fabien and Khan have discussed new projects on other Trinidad Broadcasting Company (TBC) stations as well as opportunities for local content to be broadcast on television.
"There's a need for creating programmes that reflect our culture and society," Khan said, adding that Fabien's talent, versatility and love for culture will fill this need."With the return of Errol, we are very excited about the new projects," he said.
