A mother is now pleading for the public’s help to get her family out of the abject poverty in which they now live.
The murder toll now stands at 22 after the shooting death of a 27-year-old Santa Cruz man on Wednesday night. For the same period last year, the murder toll was four. Residents of El Carmen Road, Gasparillo, Upper Santa Cruz, told police they heard gunshots around 8.30 pm on Wednesday and after investigating found the body of Jezereel Roberts. Residents subsequently contacted the 999 Rapid Response. Cpl Frederick and constables Sealey and Remy responded.
Roberts lived at Spring Valley Road, Champs Fleurs. His relatives chose not to speak to the media when approached at the Forensic Science Centre, St James, yesterday. Police believe Roberts’s killing is linked to a murder charge that he was recently freed of. Roberts was charged with the 2009 murder of Terrance Romain. Police said Roberts was supposed to have been rearrested for Romain’s murder after being freed at the Tunapuna Magistrates Court last month.
