Satnarine Paladee, brother of slain teacher Dian Paladee, has advised people in abusive relationships to leave their partners.Paladee was speaking at the memorial service for his sister at the El Dorado South Hindu School on Tuesday.Dian Paladee, 48, was shot dead by her ex-husband, Sanjeev Rambarran, at a St Augustine apartment last week Friday. Rambarran then turned his licensed firearm on himself.Paladee was the daughter of Lall Paladee, the founder of retail chain Pennywise Cosmetics.
The service was held at the school in which Paladee served as a teacher for the past 29 years.Educators said she started to work as a teacher at the school on her 19th birthday. Paladee was cremated on Sunday at the Caroni Cremation Site. If she was alive she would have celebrated her 49th birthday on Tuesday."Let us learn from her life," Satnarine Paladee told the gathering.
"Every single man who has it in his head to raise his hand to hit a woman, please erase that thought out of your head. Get it out and go and say your prayers. Never feel it is okay to hit the woman."Don't stay in an abusive relationship. Get up and get out. My sister was never touched by any of us physically...and never raise a hand to hit the person you're supposed to love and protect."Paladee then said $100,000 will be donated to the school as a birthday gift in her name.
"We admire what has been done in the schools, always teaching morals, always teaching values," he said.Paladee described his sister as a person who never made a negative remark and was always smiling and happy.During the service, Dian's fellow colleagues dedicated a poem and tribute to her. Her students also paid an artistic tribute to her.
Pundit Utam Maharaj-Dharmacharya, president general of the Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha, said the incident was tragic, but life goes on and she would continue to live in those whose lives she touched over the years.
