A Marabella labourer was jailed for 60 days yesterday after pleading guilty to stealing two doors from a woman's home, to install in his own house, which is under construction.Roger Nelson, 43, pleaded guilty to stealing the two doors, valued $2,300, from Annmarie Deocharan at Andre Avenue, Marabella, on Saturday night. He appeared before Senior Magistrate Annette Mc Kenzie in the San Fernando court.Court prosecutor Cleyon Seedan told the court Deocharan made a report on Saturday night. Cpl Sydney Simon and other officers saw Nelson walking along Andre Avenue with the doors on his head.
Simon confronted Nelson who said: "Boss ah really take them doors from the house."Nelson was taken to the police station. Deocharan identified the two doors. In the court yesterday, Nelson asked for an opportunity to pay Deocharan for the doors but the magistrate rejected his offer."That is what you should have done before you went to the woman's house and picked up her doors."Go to a hardware if you want doors," Mc Kenzie told Nelson, who has nine previous convictions for larceny. In a plea for leniency, Nelson said he has a girlfriend but no children. He claimed Deocharan's house was abandoned and unsecure and he was only trying to build himself up by constructing a house at the back of his mother's property."You must not build yourself up by stealing from others," McKenzie said.In passing sentence McKenzie said she considered his guilty plea, that he did not waste the courts time. His last offence was in 2008.
