Man gunned down in Couva
A man was shot and killed in Couva yesterday morning, in what appears to be an execution. Senior Superintendent Johnny Abraham said around 5 am a gunman walked down a narrow alley next to the popular De Ja Vous rum shop along the Couva Main Road, hid behind a wall, and fired several shots into a crowd that was liming outside the rum shop.
Abraham said Wayne Haywood, 30, who lived at Mc Bean Village and Marabella, was shot along with another unidentified man. Abraham said Haywood died on the spot, while the other victim was warded in a critical condition at the San Fernando General Hospital up to late yesterday. Abraham said police took possession of a hard drive from the owner of the rum shop. The owner said the security camera systems were down because they were doing and upgrade.
Abraham said despite this murder, crime in Central was down by more than 100 percent for the same period last year. Abraham advised people to be extra careful as the Carnival season draws closer.
