Senior forensic pathologist Dr Valery Alexandrov has filed for a protection order from the court, after being physically assaulted inside a mortuary room by one of his colleagues last month. The suspect, who has faced a similar charge in the past, is expected to be charged with assault by beating.Since the story broke in the media last week, Alexandrov said he has been concerned for his safety.
"I am at home for the rest of the week. I have spoken to my lawyer, who will file for the restraining order on my behalf. My family is very worried about me. They have advised me to get this restraining order, so I am working on that today," Alexandrov said last Thursday.Alexandrov was beaten on December 2 by a co-worker in the mortuary room of the Forensic Science Centre in St James. Photographs and video footage showed he was grabbed by his tie, kicked and chucked out of the room by the suspect.
Alexandrov made a report in December and last Monday, and a case file was finally submitted by PC Ravi Mohan of the St Clair Police Station. Mohan received instructions to proceed by summons in the matter and a file was sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard.
