The People's National Movement (PNM) general council is calling for the immediate removal of Attorney General Anand Ramlogan, in light of the "disrespectful statements" he made against MP Terrence Deyalsingh in Parliament on Friday night.During the debate, Ramlogan "attacked" the St Joseph MP about a woman whom he described as the MP's ex-girlfriend "Kristel."
At the party's post-general council press conference yesterday, outgoing party chairman Franklin Khan said they decided unanimously that Ramlogan should resign after his vulgar and uncouth outburst in Parliament during the Lower House's debate on the Dangerous Dog (Amendment) Bill 2014.Khan said the party hoped that this would be the last time Ramlogan crossed the line.
The council, he said, has also appointed its own constitutional review team. The party will seek, he said, to review the Government's draft titled Report on the T&T Constitution Reform Commission and to have its newly-formed commission review the national Constitution and make recommendations should it get into power.Khan said the party does not support proportional representation nor does it believe that a new constitution was needed.
The party's commission comprises Barry Sinanan (former speaker), Bridgette Anisette-George (former AG), John Jeremie (another former AG), Dr Terence Farrell (former deputy governor of the central bank), Dr Anselm London (former finance secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly) and Mrs Glenda Morean-Phillip (former AG). Three more are expected to be added to the commission.
