The Trinidad Hotels Restaurants and Tourism Association will privately show TOBAGO 1677, an international feature documentary on the sea battles between French and Dutch warships in Tobago, tomorrow at 7 pm at Hyatt Regency Trinidad. The show will cost $150. The docudrama is currently being marketed with the intent for it to be released on television during the July/August holiday.
A release sent to the media said, "The catalyst for this project is the 336th anniversary in 2013 of two of the most ferocious sea battles in history fought by French and Dutch warships in Tobago. These 20 shipwrecks, an unheard of archaeological treasure, lie on the seafloor of Scarborough harbor, Tobago, virtually untouched for over three centuries."The Tobago House of Assembly authorised Oceans Discovery Tobago Ltd to film and document this historical treasure and to reveal this story of epic proportions to the world.
The film presents Tobago's underwater natural and historical sites, "as part of a strategic approach to tourism destination development." The release said the approach, "will substantially boost T&T's reputation as an international cultural tourism destination while significantly enhancing all aspects of tomorrow's tourism business."
