People's National Movement (PNM) public relations officer Faris Al-Rawi says the party's caucus will determine tomorrow whether a motion of no confidence will be taken against Sport Minister Anil Roberts in the alleged ganja scandal."The caucus of the PNM, which is the Parliamentary arm, will be considering all of its options which we always do," he said yesterday.
He said there were a number of ways the "ganja-gate and girls" issue can be dealt with–through a Private Members Motion in the House of Representatives "including a no-confidence motion in relation to him."Al-Rawi said these matters will be left for the PNM's chief whip and Opposition Leader to decide. The Senator was speaking at the party's press briefing at Balisier House, Port-of-Spain.
A video which aired on TV6 last Wednesday, and went viral on Facebook, showed a man who resembles and sounds like a government minister wrapping a marijuana cigarette.Al-Rawi said the PNM has taken issue with Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar's stony silence on the video and onallegations of criminals controlling millions of taxpayers' dollars in the Life Sport Programme, which falls under Roberts' ministry.
"Where is the Prime Minister? Is silence an option? I don't think so."If the PM fails to address both issues, Al-Rawi said, the PNM would continue to demand that the 2015 general election be called.Al-Rawi said while the general council has called on the PM "to dismiss" Roberts forthwith, he hopes the acting Police Commissioner moves with alacrity on "ganja-gate."
