Seventy-three-year-old Sybil Ramlochan says despite suffering decades of abuse at the hands of her 55-year-old son, she is saddened by his death and the consequences that await the relative who took his life.Deodath "Boysie" Ramlochan, of Chaguanas, was stabbed to death by a male relative on Sunday afternoon after an argument over a cigarette while he was visiting his mother's home at Solomon Street, Princes Town. The relative was arrested and taken to the Princes Town Police Station.
When the T&T Guardian visited Ramlochan's home yesterday morning, she insisted the stabbing was self-defence."I don't know what the argument was about but 'Boysie' grabbed the knife first. Every time he come here he always getting in trouble," said his mother. "He used to beat me and threaten to burn down my house."The mother of six said the male relative was the one who took care of her whenever "Boysie" would go in a rage."I used to have to run out in my nightie and hide by neighbours," she said. "He (the relative) would try to get him to stop but he never listen."
She said before Sunday, she last saw "Boysie" over three months ago when he broke her bedroom window and told her he would kill her."He couldn't live here because every time he drink alcohol he does start to fight," said Ramlochan. "He just come and bring a chicken, I cooked it for them, then they started to drink."She said after cooking her feet were hurting so she went to lie down. The next time she saw "Boysie", he was covered in his own blood, with his sobbing relative holding onto his body and begging him to come back to life."He never wanted to stab 'Boysie'. When they was arguing, 'Boysie' rush him to fight and when he take away the knife from 'Boysie', like he stabbed him by accident."With tears in her eyes, she said all she wanted was to visit her relative at the police station.
Dead from single stab wound
An autopsy yesterday at the Forensic Science Centre, St James, showed Ramlochan died of a single stab wound to the neck which severed a major artery. Pathologist Dr Valery Alexandrov, who did the autopsy, said the wound was inflicted by a "regular kitchen knife" and the blade went into his left lung. The knife has not yet been found.
