A lime to a nightclub ended in tragedy for one group of friends, after their 24-year-old designated driver died in a car crash on her journey home on Saturday morning.Narissa Field had just dropped friends home in Diego Martin after a night at Aria Lounge at Ariapita Avenue, Woodbrook, when the accident occurred.Police said around 2.10 am, Field was driving her Subaru car south along the Diego Martin Highway when she lost control shortly after passing the intersection at the KFC restaurant.
Field's car reportedly swerved violently and flipped several times before coming to a stop.Her boyfriend, who was following her in another vehicle, immediately stopped to rush to his girlfriend's assistance. He managed to remove her from the mangled wreck and drove her to the St James District Health Facility.Field was stabilised and transferred to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital but died while receiving treatment.
Her death marked the 57th road fatality for the year and the third for the long Indian Arrival Day weekend.On Thursday, Jheron Emmanuel, 22, of St Lucien Road, Diego Martin, was struck and killed while he was attempting to cross Wendy Fitzwilliam Boulevard in Diamond Vale. Emmanuel was a graphic arts student at the College of Science Technology and Applied Arts of T&T (Costaatt).
Almost 24 hours later, 32-year-old Sarran Lutchman died after he crashed his pick-up truck into a utility pole near his home along the Naparima/Mayaro Road in New Grant.Meanwhile, three police officers escaped with minor injuries after a driver crashed into their vehicle while they were on patrol in Barataria on Saturday night.
Investigators said around 11 pm, the officers–Cpl Etha Browne and PCs Richard Forbes and Daniel Ottley –were driving east along the Priority Bus Route (PBR) when a Nissan Frontier heading north along Sixth Avenue crashed into their vehicle.Investigations are continuing.
