Man killed in drunken brawl
A 21-year-old man from Lyle Lane, Felicity, was stabbed to death on Saturday night after he reportedly tried to steal a wallet from his intoxicated friend. According to police reports, Outam “Dhanraj” Jankie was at the home of his friend’s sister in Edinburgh 500, Chaguanas drinking alcohol before the stabbing occurred.
The men drank until they fell asleep, police said, and around 10.30 pm the friend awoke and caught Jankie attempting to steal his wallet. Jankie was confronted and the two men began arguing when Jankie picked up a knife and stabbed the other man in the hand. During a struggle, the man managed to wrestle the knife away from Jankie and stabbed him about the body. Jankie collapsed and died.
Officers from the Chaguanas Police Station led by Sgt Jitindra Toleram and Cpl Barrow visited the scene and detained the 22-year-old suspect from La Brea. The matter is being treated as a murder until further investigations say otherwise, police said. The murder toll is now 193 for the year and the corresponding period last year was 167.
