The murder toll is now 217 following the shooting deaths of two men in Arima and Barataria between Saturday and yesterday.According to police reports, 39-year-old father of two Hardeo David was at his home at Sixth Avenue, Malick, Barataria, when gunmen stormed in around 2 am Saturday and opened fire.He was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Complex, Mt Hope, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Speaking with the media at the Forensic Science Centre, St James, yesterday, relatives who wished not to be identified said David, who had a son, 19, and a daughter, 16, was a labourer who loved children. They said they were clueless as to who or why anyone would want him dead.In the other incident, police said around 12.30 pm they received a report from residents of Calvary Hill, Arima, about a stench in the area. The officers went to the scene and found the semi-decomposed body of Kevin Alexander in a track with what appeared to be gunshot wounds to the head.
In an unrelated matter, the body of a man found at City Gate, Port-of-Spain, on Saturday remained unidentified yesterday. Police reports are that passersby alerted them to the man, who was found with wounds to the head.The murder toll for the same period last year was 189.
