Monday, July 28, 2014
Pakistani school pupil and education activist Malala Yousafzai arrives at Piarco International Airport yesterday.

Education Advocate Malala Yousafzai has praised T&T for its opportunities of offering free education to all. Yousafzai arrived at Piarco International Airport at about 5 pm, where she was greeted by Minister of Tertiary Education, Senator Fazal Karim. Yousafzai was being brought to T&T by the University of T&T, which falls under the Ministry of Tertiary Education and Skills Training.

Speaking with reports at Piarco airport, Yousafzai, 17, said T&T was a perfect example of what she is advocating globally for, "This is a wonderful thing. This is how we want other countries, to have education free." She said T&T reminded her of her homeland Pakistan. She said she was amazed by the country’s beauty as she flew in and the warmth of the people. Guardian Media Ltd is the official media partner for Yousafzai's visit.

Yousafzai, in her advocacy for girls’ education, resulted in her being shot by the Taliban. She was shot in the left side of the head. In 2013 she delivered an address to United Nations General Assembly where she championed her cause. She was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize in 2013, and again in 2014.
