Relatives of a five-year-old boy who fell into a river contaminated with crude oil are calling on Petrotrin to take responsibility for the child's accident.
A seven-year-old girl was crushed to death by a metal gate at her Couva home yesterday. Adita Roopchand, a pupil of Freeport Hindu School, was found under the 15-foot wrought iron gate, around 10 am, at her Beaucarro Village, Mc Bean village home. Her mother, Jankey Roopchand, had moments before walked out of the yard to speak to a neighbour who alerted her that the gate had fallen.
The mother later realised her daughter was under the gate. With the help from neighbours, the child was removed and taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. The woman has a son, 11, who recently sat the Secondary Entrance Assessment examinations. Freeport police are continuing investigations.
