A 34-year-old former employee of Massy Stores, formerly known as Hi Lo, has been released on bail after appearing in court charged with defrauding the company of over $83,000.
Francis Malcolm, of Mount Zion Road, Arima, was granted $150,000 bail when he appeared in the Port-of-Spain First Magistrates Court on Wednesday on 315 fraud charges.Magistrate Christine Charles took several hours to read the charges to Malcolm who was last employed as a facilities administrator with the supermarket chain.
He is accused of creating and uttering fraudulent invoices and vouchers and using the documents to illegally obtain money from the company between September 30, last year and July 22 this year.
The company reported the matter to the Fraud Squad after one of its managers reportedly found discrepancies during an internal audit. Detective David Cummings investigated the claims and Malcolm was arrested late last week.
He is expected to reappear before Charles next Friday. (DA)
