Three German nationals arrived in Tobago yesterday to work alongside the T&T Police Service as the investigations into the murders of Hubertus and Birgid Keil continue.A release from the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) said members of Germany's Federal Police and a forensic pathologist from the University of Frankfurt had arrived on the island.
The T&T Guardian was informed that the German security personnel were specially requested through the Germany Embassy by relatives of the Keil's to come to T&T. The family want them to not only work alongside local law enforcement, but to independently carry out another autopsies on the Keils. The independent autopsies are expected to be conducted today.
According to the release, the arrival of the German team comes as progress is being made by investigators in the case.Germans vacationing in Tobago have expressed gratitude towards their government for its quick response in sending investigators here.
A German national, who only gave his name as Ekkhardt, yesterday said: "It is such a tragedy. It hurts my heart to see what happened to my people here. Crime is too horrid here."I am calling on the police to bring justice to my people. I booked my holiday already and almost cancelled it."
The Keils – Hubertus, 74, and Birgid, 71 – were discovered shortly after 11 am at Bacolet Bay on November 23 by a passerby who called the police.They had been hacked to death and their bodies dumped approximately one mile east of the beach near the mouth of the river. There were chop wounds about their necks, hands and bodies.
A $100,000 reward is being offered to the public for assistance in catching the perpetrator/s. The hotline numbers are 708-9302, 708-9142 or 800-TIPS.
