There has been an increase in gun crimes in Tobago.So says Police Inspector Earl Arthur, who was speaking at a news conference at the Scarborough police station Wednesday."So far we would have recovered about seven or eight firearms in the Tobago Division for 2014. Of course, it is a greater number to last year's figure" he said.He said Tobago police recovered two guns and a quantity of ammunition in an exercise that ended early Christmas Eve morning.
A Glock 17 pistol believed to be stolen from an MI4 Security Officer in October and a Raven .25 Pistol, along with 10 rounds of hollow-tipped ammunition, were seized.The guns were found during an exercise conducted by the Scarborough CID, Task Force and the Tobago Homicide Bureau from Monday night into Wednesday morning in Scarborough and Lambeau.
Three were arrested, and charges are expected to be laid. The detained men were between 22 and 29 years old and were from Government House Road, Lambeau and Mason Hall. The T&T Guardian understands that around 2:30 am on Wednesday, a vehicle with three occupants was stopped and searched in Scarborough and during the search the loaded Glock pistol was found, two men were arrested while a third man escaped.
Around 5:15am officers executed a search warrant at the home of a 28-year-old man from Lambeau where the Raven .25 pistol was recovered.A warrant is expected to be issued for the arrest of another man from Mount St George. The Scarborough CID is continuing investigations.
