Independent Liberal Party (ILP) leader Jack Warner could face sanctions ranging from a reprimand to suspension if Parliament's Privileges Committee has to examine his recent "abandoned" motion against Finance Minister Larry Howai and finds him wanting on this, according to Leader of Government Business Dr Roodal Moonilal.
Warner's motion against Howai on a Carlton Savannah loan issue collapsed after he halted 20 minutes into his delivery after being cautioned by House Speaker Wade Mark to stick to the relevant issue. He also failed to undertake all processes required to complete the motion.
Warner packed up his paper and walked out of the Parliament after the Speaker advised him he was heading in the wrong direction onto another matter which hadn't been approved. Warner claimed he was being muzzled.Moonilal said a People's Partnership (PP) caucus will decide whether it would request that the matter be examined by Parliament's privileges team.
He said: "Mr Warner abandoned his motion without completing the process and without reference to the content of his motion, after the Speaker allowed him to speak and when MPs from both sides had spent a lot of time on the motion. When I raised the issue of relevance of the motion, the Speaker even overruled me, so he got full freedom to speak on the approved motion. However his action showed lack of respect for the House and the sanctity of Parliament."
