Since January 5, lecturers have withheld the Semester One grades from the students, due to an outstanding payment of $87 million in salaries owed to WIGUT?members. UWI administrators withheld all Semester Onegrades. This action triggered two protest actions from students, one of which disrupted the flow of vehicular trafffic through the main entrances to the campus.
Ramsewak confirmed that WIGUT had settled their impasse with UWI's administration and stated that the students would get their grades within 48 hours.
all marks will be entered. All lecturers have to enter the grades," Ramsewak said.
Meanwhile as UWI?students await their grades, some executive members of the UWI Guild of Students Council have gone to Jamaica to meet with regional university officials to discuss the matter.
"Currently, we are in Jamaica to lodge an official complaint with the Chancellor and the Pro?Vice Chancellor regarding the grades issue," said Makesi Peters, vice-president of the Guild of Students, St Augustine.
Peters said that because of the grades being withheld, more than 30 regional students were unable to access funds to travel to Trinidad.
"Day by day, we are receiving more correspondence saying that students cannot come over to our campus. We need our grades and we need it soon," Peters said.
