Defending Digicel International Power Soca Monarch Machel Montano will have to defend his title on Fantastic Friday against his former songwriter and band member Kernal (Kitch) Roberts.
Roberts, who was one of the crowd pleasers during Sunday's semi-final at the Queen's Park Savannah, Port-of-Spain, was one of ten finalists announced by the organisers, Caribbean Prestige Foundation, last night.
Roberts is making his debut in the competition this year with his hit Excitement.
Montano will also have stiff competition from Shurwayne Winchester and Neil Iwer George, who have both had success in previous competitions.
Comedienne Nikki Crosby was also a surprise finalist in the Power category with her catchy Go Granny Go.
While ten artistes will face Montano in the Power category, the Groovy competitors have been whittled down from 47 to 14, leaving fans surprised as some of their favourites did not go forward.
Defending Groovy champ Kerwin Dubois will not be defending his title.
The finals of both competitions will take place on February 13 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.
