If you've been a victim of crime in Tobago inthe last three months, Crown Pont policemay have good news for you.
Police are asking for help from thepublic to return$70,000 in stolen cash and goods recovered on Carnival Saturday.
608inUS dollars,10 UK pounds,and $9,000 in TT dollarswere among the recovered cash.Stolenitems include laptops, handcuffs, cellular phones, watches, cameras, jewelry, clothing, books and toiletries. Police say the cash and goods were stolen between December and February in the Crown Point and Old Grange districts.
Among the items was one special treasure, a copy ofMalala Yousafzai's I Am Malala, which appeared to have been a gift to "Shawn" from hisaunt Sarah.
"I think this book has a lot of sentimental value and we really like Shawn to get back his book. Could he contact the Crown Point Police Station?His aunt Sarah would have signed it on the 4thof August 2014," said lead officer in the investigation, Inspector Woods-James.
Police are encouraging other victims to come forward, by visiting the Crown Point station with relevant documents to prove ownership of the items.Crown Point Police Station telephone numbers are6390042, 6390020 or 6399872.
Sangre Grande man held
A 28-year-old man from Sangre Grande with Tobago roots was arrested in connection with the stolen goods.Charges are expected to laid soon.
Police heldthe man on Milford Road, Crown Point near Rosie's Bakery. Some of the articles were found in the rented vehicle that the suspect was driving, while others were found duringa search at his home at Rufus Lane, St. Cecelia, Concordia home.
TheGuardian learned thatthe suspect has seven outstanding warrants including rape, robbery, larceny and kidnapping in Trinidad.
Woods-Jamesreminded people of the need to be more careful with personal items when in public.
"You could leave your valuable items–such as laptops, cellular phones, jewelry and cash–you could leave them at home, hotels or guesthouses, wherever you are staying," she said.
