Investigators believe they are making headway in their investigation into last weekend's $15 million jewelry heist at the More Money Pawnshop and Jewelry Store, as they now have several people in custody.
This was confirmed yesterday by the T&T Police Service's public information officer, Joanne Archie.
Archie said she was told by investigators that investigations would be intensified over the weekend and were expected to be fruitful.
"By Monday we should be hearing more on this latest development. So, the police are working feverishly on the case," Archie said.
Meanwhile, law and order was maintained on day two yesterday outside of the pawnshop at Henry Street, Port-of-Spain.
The management of the establishment yesterday thanked pawn ticket holders for their understanding and patience in light of the circumstances.
At about 8 am, approximately 300 pawn ticket holders turned up at the store seeking compensation for items they had left at the pawnshop.
This time, compared to Thursday's rowdy crowd, the people that arrived demonstrated a little more patience. There was also a noticeable police presence keeping close watch over the activities inside and outside the pawnshop.
Speaking with the T&T Guardian yesterday, director of Operations, Wayne Griffith, said yesterday's processing of claims at the tellers flowed more effectively and efficiently.
"We were able to iron out where we went wrong and/or could have improved on from Thursday's experience so we were able to carry out our operations a little more smoothly."
Asked about the status of investigations, Griffith said he was contacted by investigating officers who asked for more information regarding the pawnshop's inventory.
