The killing of two men in the Eastern Division are engaging the attention of Region Two Homicide Bureau.In the most recent case a 21-year-old man was stabbed to death by a man with whom he had an altercation with moments before.According to police reports, Stephan Rodney, of Foster Road, Sangre Grande, was on the Eastern Main Road, near Ojoe's Variety Store, around 4.10 pm when he and the man got into a fight.
During the fight both men stabbed each other. Police said they were unaware of the cause of the argument or who was the aggressor.Rodney was taken to the hospital where he died undergoing emergency treatment while the other man was arrested and taken into police custody.In the second killing on Tuesday, police said Navin Rajkumar, of Knowles Street, Curepe, was found dead in Cumuto around 4.30 pm by a passerby.
Rajkumar, 33, an employee of a waste disposal company, is believed to have been robbed before his killers shot him nine times, police said.During the weekly press briefing yesterday head of the Eastern Division Sacenarine Mahabir, who was at the scene of yesterday's killings, said there had been an overall reduction in serious crimes for 2015 when compared to the same period in 2014.
He said last year there were 168 reported serious crimes in the division compared to 97 this year. He added that there was also a decrease in murders from 12 to five per cent."As Senior Superintendent in charge of the Eastern Division, the focus of officers in line with the mandate of the Commissioner of Police is to reduce crime by five per cent and murders by 20 per cent in 2015, as we seek to ensure a safer T&T for citizens and visitors," he added.
