While many commuters were dealing with police roadblocks that caused standstill traffic across Tobago and Trinidad this morning, one Chaguanas Borough Corporation employee made a much more gruesome early-morning discovery.
While on his way to work around 7.20 am, the public servantsaw the blood-soaked body lying lifelessin a yard along Dookeran Street, off Cacandee Road.
A team of Chaguanas CID detectives have since then taken charge of the investigation around the circumstancesaround the death the 56-year-old Felicity father, later identified asChunilal Mungroo. It was also later confirmed that the yard where his body was found was his own.
Investigating officers, led by Snr Supt Johnny Abraham and Sgt Jitindra Toolaram, documentedsome evidence of a struggle. When theysearched Mungroo's home, they found a trail of blood leading from his bedroom into the roadway. And the Guardian learned that the Mungroos were having family issues over the past months.
But up to midday, policecould not determine a motive for the killing. And a district medical officer could not immediately determine whether Mungroo was shot, stabbed or beaten.
An autopsy to be done later on Monday at the Forensic Science Centre was expected to reveal the cause of death.
