A 26-year-old soldier died this morningafter his car slammed into a concrete barrieron theChurchill Roosevelt Highway.
According to police, Private AkeemPierre may have lost control of the Nissan Versa that he was driving as heneared the El Socoro intersection. Police believe Pierre may have fallen asleep at the wheel.
A statement from the T&T Regiment saidthe fatal accident happened at about 4am.
According to reports, Pierre was the only person in the car.
Pierre worked as a cook at the Regiment Headquarters in Port-of-Spain.
"The commanding officer, officers, men and women of the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment extend deepest condolences to the members of Private Pierre's family. May they receive the strength and guidance from the Almighty God and the support from relatives and friends during their time of grief," the statement said.
