Desperate mother, Cherrie Ann Thom, 35, of Valencia is pleading with the Minister of Education Dr Tim Gopeesingh to intervene in her situation where her two children are constantly being bullied in school.Thom's daughter, Nadia Noreiga, 12, and son, Steve Noreiga attend the Guaico Government School.Leaving home on mornings to go to school is a tough task for them because they are harassed and beaten by a school bully.
Speaking with the T&T Guardian, Thom, who appeared on CNC3's Crime Watch programme with host Ian Alleyne just last week, said she is so scared to even send them off to school today, the start of a new term."It is a pain for me for my children to go to school knowing that they are being beat up and the teachers there seem to have no control and say over that particular child," Thom said.
"Every day my children come home and tell me about the beatings and harsh language they have to deal with. It is like a nightmare for them. "My children are not being protected at all at school and I am afraid that one day I might get a message saying that my children or one of them is badly beaten or dead," she added.
She claimed that she has made several reports to the Valencia Police Post and to the Ministry of Education and still nothing has been done to either discipline or remove the school bully or protect her children. She is now demanding that Gopeesingh intervenes before it is too late and many regrets are left behind.
"I am scared. I am so scared. Weapons are also involved here and other kinds of alleged assaults and the Minister of Education must intervene now."All I want right now is my children to be transferred from the school. My children love school but they cannot deal with this. It is affecting them emotionally and mentally to," Thom said.Efforts to reach Gopeesingh for comment yesterday proved futile.
