Citizens should prepare for another rainy day today so walk with your umbrellas, raincoats and galoshes.
So said senior meteorologist with the T&T Meteorological Office (Met Office) Carol Subrath-Ali yesterday.
Subrath-Ali said most parts of T&T should prepare for rain as the country would experience heavy rainfall.
Yesterday several parts of the country experienced heavy showers which caused flash flooding in some areas, including Chaguanas, San Juan/Laventille, near Grand Bazaar and along Wrightson Road and South Quay, Port-of-Spain.
The Priority Bus Route was opened for all traffic yesterday to allow traffic leaving Port-of-Spain easier access.
Most of the country experienced cloudy conditions with periods of rain and showers, some of which have been moderate to heavy.
The Met Office confirmed the rainfall activity was due to the passage of a tropical wave over the southern Caribbean which is interacting with the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).
Subrath-Ali said "tropical waves and ITCZ are trademarks of the rainy season," so there should not be any concern for potential storms.
Yesterday the office recorded 50.7 ml for the 24-hour period. Subrath-Ali said today the Met Office was expecting the same intensity of rainfall. She advised citizens to check for bulletins issued by the Met Office for weather updates.
The Office of Disaster Preparedness Management (ODPM) also issued an advisory yesterday reminding citizens if they were affected by the inclement weather to contact their Customer Care Centre at 511 and visit our Web site www.odpm.gov.tt for additional safety tips.
The organisation also advised that after heavy rainfall stay inside until water levels subsided and venture outside only when it was confirmed safe. Do not walk or drive through flood waters. Be cautious and vigilant when walking/driving along hillsides or landslide-prone areas, it was stated.
The ODPM also noted that T&T was not under any tropical storm threat, watch or warning.
